We’re breaking the mold this week with a double feature! Meet Finn and Frankie: senior citizens, shelter royalty, and—yes, brace yourself— a mother and son who actually enjoy each other’s company!

Before we delve into Finn and Frankie’s journey, a quick backstory: for the past two years, I’ve been volunteering at SARA Animal Shelter in Redcar, and every week, without fail, I fall hard for one (or two) of the cats in our care. I used to keep track of my “favourite of the week” on a calendar and with countless phone pics. But my phone pleaded for mercy, so I decided to share my weekly Cat Crushes with all of you! Thus, welcome to the Cat of the Week series, where I get to show off these furry stars and maybe—just maybe—help one find their forever lap.

Flashback to Last Week's Star: Esme

If you were with us last week, you’ll remember Esme, our regal but slightly frazzled post-natal queen. Esme hasn’t found a forever home just yet, but things on the family front are looking up. With more space, she and her kittens seem to be thriving, proving that all they needed was a bit of room to stretch out and cool off. Fingers crossed for more of this peaceful family bonding!

Now, onto this week’s winner(s)…Finn & Frankie!

Finn (ginger and white) and Frankie (calico) came to us under bittersweet circumstances in July, after their beloved human passed away. Now, here’s where things get unique: when cats lose their person, they’re usually a bit somber, reserved, and maybe a little prickly, which we totally understand. But Finn and Frankie? Pure snuggle energy from day one. The moment I introduced myself, I was greeted with purrs and slow blinks, and every visit since, these two are purring the minute I sit down. They’re honestly lap-cat legends in the making—I’m convinced I haven’t seen either of them take more than three steps, and even those are just for food or extra scritches.

Volume up to hear what Finn has to say!

Now, you might wonder why these two haven’t nabbed the top spot before now. It’s not that I have anything against our “distinguished” senior citizens (you know I love a good seasoned snuggle!). But with Finn and Frankie both qualifying for the “feline senior discount,” let’s be real, their vet bills would probably require a second mortgage. I adore them but, alas, my wallet shudders at the thought.

So, if you’re looking for two laid-back, purring champions who will loyally warm your lap and your heart, Finn and Frankie are here, waiting to make your life 1000% cosier and your savings 1000% less.
