Why You Need a Cat Reason #2 - Never be Lonely Again

As a certified introvert, I’ve always cherished my alone time. Few things are as satisfying as sitting in perfect silence with a book, a snack, and zero human interaction. But then came Fika, my whiskered sidekick, and suddenly, I learned something shocking: maybe a little companionship isn’t so bad after all.

When I first adopted Fika, I was living in rented accommodation where I technically wasn't allowed pets. This meant that Fika was only allowed to stay in my bedroom when I wasn't home and was not allowed free reign of the house at night (in case it turned out she loved tearing up the carpet). It was far from the dream life I wanted for her, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. But thankfully, it only lasted a month before we moved into Alex’s house, where Fika could finally roam freely—and, of course, explore the great outdoors on her leash like the tiny adventurer she is.

That first month, though? It bonded us in ways I didn’t expect. Living in close quarters meant Fika and I became inseparable. We worked together (see below for evidence), played together, ate together, and, tried to sleep together.

It’s funny—normally, after a sleepover, I’m the first one to invent an excuse to go home and recharge. But with Fika, I never felt the need for “alone time.” Somehow, her quiet presence was never draining.

Well… almost never. There were the occasional nights when she decided to treat my face like a racetrack during her 3 a.m. zoomies or practice her mountaineering skills on my bookshelf. But hey, that’s on me for rudely trying to sleep when she clearly had plans.

Having Fika around taught me that companionship doesn’t always mean constant chatter or crowded spaces. Sometimes, it’s just the comforting sound of a purring cat curled up beside you, or the hilarious sight of them darting after a toy like their life depends on it. Fika isn’t just a pet—she’s a little roommate, a co-worker, a personal therapist, and a comic relief all rolled into one.

Whether you're an introvert like me or someone who thrives on social interaction, a cat has a way of filling your life with just the right kind of company. They’re there when you need them, but they also respect your space (as long as you don’t try to sleep during their zoomies). Fika may have started as a furry little rulebreaker in my rental bedroom, but she quickly became so much more—a reminder that even introverts can enjoy, rather than just tolerate, a lot of companionship in their lives. So, if you’ve been considering adopting a cat, take this as your sign. You’ll never feel alone again.
